Got Dental Anxiety? Here are Some Coping Tips

Posted .

If you have dental anxiety, then you most likely feel nervous, afraid, or uptight in our dental chair. Our dentist, Dr. Kathryn Lewis, wants to change that so you can have a positive and comfortable appointment at our office. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to deal with dental anxiety, and those things are:

-Speak up: Tell our dental team about how you feel. If we know you are nervous and anxious, we can do everything we can to help you. We can even establish a “stop” signal with you so you feel in control of your treatment. We would be happy to take extra measures to help you feel better during your appointment.

-Distract yourself: Listen to music, watch a movie, use a stress ball, or play with a fidget spinner during your treatment. This might take your mind off the appointment and help you feel more relaxed and comfortable. Who knows, you might even have a little fun!

-Use calming techniques: Try counting your breaths while you’re in the dental chair. Inhale slowly and then exhale slowly throughout your appointment. This can calm your heart rate and help you control your breathing. This can help your muscles and mind relax while your smile is being treated.
